Close to Heart – The Parenting & Family Support Centers, funded in part by the Scheinberg Foundation, are at the heart of our response—helping families rebuild a sense of normalcy, resilience, and connection through:

  • Parent-Child Emotional Resilience Programs – Guided activities for parents and young children to restore emotional balance, strengthen relationships, and develop coping mechanisms.
  • Parenting Guidance & Support Groups – Safe spaces for parents to share experiences, receive expert guidance, and regain confidence in their parenting roles post-crisis.
  • Structured Play & Developmental Activities for Children – Enriching programs that promote emotional expression, stability, and social reintegration for children ages 0-8.
  • Community Strengthening Initiatives – Events and workshops that rebuild local networks, reinforce social bonds, and enhance collective resilience.

Thanks to the Scheinberg Foundation, we are launching these essential programs in 7 communities: Merom Galil, Mateh Asher, Ma’ale Yosef, Hatzor HaGlilit, Ma’alot-Tarshiha, Mevo’ot HaHermon, and Tzfat.

However, many other communities remain without these critical resources. This is our chance to ensure that every returning family receives the support they need to rebuild their lives with strength and hope.

Restoring lives, rebuilding communities – through the "For the Community" initiative, in partnership with NATAL (Israel Trauma & Resiliency Center).

In the aftermath of crisis, true recovery extends beyond individual healing – it requires rebuilding the very fabric of community life. Community centers serve as the foundation for this process, providing the structure, support, and resources essential for long-term recovery. The Healing Journeys program is a groundbreaking initiative that uniquely integrates post-traumatic growth with community-building, offering trauma survivors a transformative pathway to resilience and activism.

A Game-Changer in Community Rehabilitation: unlike traditional programs, Healing Journeys is designed to cultivate grassroots activism and social entrepreneurship as powerful tools for individual and collective healing. True recovery happens when residents and local stakeholders actively rebuild their communities together. By empowering participants to take action, this program not only strengthens individuals but also fosters long-term community resilience.

At its core, Healing Journeys creates a deep sense of belonging—participants join a close-knit support group that becomes their ongoing network for both personal and community recovery. They return home not just as survivors but as active agents of change, committed to restoring their communities from within.

The need is urgent – we are overwhelmed with requests from dozens of additional communities. There are already dozens of groups on a waiting list, ready to begin their journey.

The program is accompanied by rigorous research and evaluation, ensuring measurable impact.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our generous supporters, including JFNA, Keren Hayesod, The European National Fund, the Israeli Office of Justice, and many other dedicated partners.

The Community Emergency Response Teams 'CERT' (Community Emergency Response Teams): Enhancing community resilience and emergency preparedness.

In July 2024 IACC launched the CERT program. In collaboration with IsraAid (an Israeli Humanitarian aid organization), we brought together residents, local authorities, and emergency response organizations to empower communities, strengthen local leadership, and create a sustainable volunteer infrastructure. This initiative has since become a lifeline for 69 municipalities across the Northern & Haifa Districts, equipping communities with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate emergencies both now and in the future.

The Community Emergency Response Teams 'CERT': Established thanks to the support of JFNA and the Schusterman Foundation, in partnership with IsraAID and local authorities, with the goal of strengthening community resilience across Israel and enhancing preparedness for emergency situations. Since its launch, 6,000 volunteers operating in 137 emergency task groups have undergone comprehensive training with expert instructors. The program integrates innovative participatory methodologies, encouraging community engagement, creativity, and collaboration.

A key focus of the program has been the establishment of community emergency infrastructure, including data mapping, shelter renovations, the creation of emergency supply warehouses, training of emergency trustees, updating emergency protocols, and defining operational procedures. Additionally, effective partnerships have been established with security forces, the Home Front Command, welfare departments, and local authorities, ensuring that community emergency centers play a central role in crisis management.

The 'CERT' program continues to expand and deepen its impact, creating stronger and better-prepared communities. With an expectancy growth to 100 municipalities. We are now working to solidify the infrastructure that has been built and expand the program’s reach, with a special emphasis on Arab communities, as well as integrate it into routine preparedness activities, ensuring long-term community resilience for any possible scenario.

This is not just about rebuilding communities – it’s about strengthening the fabric of Israeli society. Your support will help restore lives, heal divisions, and create a stronger, more united future for all.

Strengthening Seniors’ Well-being https://mtns.org.il/projects/strengthening-seniors-well-being/ Sun, 09 Mar 2025 08:48:30 +0000 https://mtns.org.il/?post_type=projects&p=2392 Restoring dignity, connection, and purpose

As of October 2023, tens of thousands of seniors from Israel’s northern and southern communities have been uprooted, others remained in their homes disconnected from their daily routines, support systems, and the social fabric that gave them a sense of purpose.

At the onset of 2025, as they return home, they face not just the challenge of resettling, but of rebuilding lives that feel meaningful, active, and connected.

The Senior Community Renewal Program is designed to combat isolation and loneliness, restore social connections, and ensure that every senior has the opportunity to reintegrate into a supportive and engaged community through:

  • Rebuilding Social Bonds – Creating weekly social clubs, discussion groups, and cultural gatherings to help seniors reconnect with their peers and rebuild a sense of belonging.
  • Mental and Physical Well-being – Offering structured wellness activities, therapeutic programs, and movement-based exercises to strengthen resilience and improve overall health.
  • Meaningful Engagement & Lifelong Learning – Empowering seniors to participate in community initiatives, volunteer programs, and knowledge-sharing activities that restore their sense of purpose.
  • Personalized Support for the Most Vulnerable – Identifying and assisting homebound and at-risk seniors through dedicated outreach, ensuring no one is left behind.

This initiative is already making an impact across 17 communities, reaching nearly 50,000 seniors. However, many more remain in urgent need of support.

We seek to double the impact of the program until 2027 and reach 100,000. Loneliness is one of the most significant challenges facing the aging population—one in three seniors in Israel already experiences chronic loneliness, and this crisis has only deepened due to war and prolonged displacement.

This is not just about returning home—it’s about restoring dignity, connection, and purpose.

Creating meaningful learning experiences that empower children and youth while strengthening community ties is a must. The learning centers provide academic support, social development programs, and leadership opportunities that help over 15,000 children and teens to reach their full potential.

Children and youth, particularly those affected by the October 7th war, require targeted support to bridge these gaps and rebuild their sense of community and belonging. This program proposes the establishment of dynamic learning and development spaces within community centers to address these challenges and nurture the next generation of resilient, engaged citizens.

Through the support of the Israeli business sector, and collaboration with local education departments, this program ensures that learning is engaging, accessible, and community-driven. To date we have recently established 10 additional centers, and our goal is to open 20 new Community Learning Centers within 3 years.

Establishing a network of youth empowerment centers across Israel, built on three pillars: community action centers, performing arts centers and youth resilience through sports

Together, these pillars provide a framework to develop leadership, strengthen the love of Israel, foster creativity, and build resilience among Israeli youth.

The Asper foundation together with the IACC and Local municipalities' goal is to expand this network to at least 10 new centers over the next decade, with a focus on communities in the northern and southern regions, which have been heavily impacted by the October 7 war. These centers will play a crucial role in rebuilding Israel’s civic society, offering youth the tools and support they need to grow into leaders and active contributors to their communities. To date there are 5 AYEN youth centers across Israel working with over 800 teens in: Ofakim, Migdal Haemek, Jerusalem, Netivot, Eilat.

As part of the program's local and regional impact, the network offers national professional development and leadership training for staff, ensuring high-quality programming and a lasting influence on young participants. By creating a platform for collaboration across the country, the network leverages its collective strength to make a far-reaching impact on youth development and community resilience.
